Cake Disaster

I had this thought ... how cool would it be to make my first real dessert for our friends who were coming over! So it began...
First of all, i had to go to the store to buy cake pans, because I didn't own any. Next, I totally forgot to spray the cake pans before I put the batter in.... such a rookie move.

Another rookie move...I didn't cut the top off the bottom cake to make it even and this happened.

Completely falling apart. It was too late to make something else and too embarassing not to share with my friends, so I just went with it.

Luckily, my friends are sweet and it tasted pretty darn good. I give myself a 2 out of 10 for presentation, but a 8 out of 10 for taste.

My piece with vanilla ice cream! Unfortunately it's staring at me right now.

I did find the recipe from pinterest, but looks like I just hit PRINT and didn't even pin it. But this weekend I also made this jambalaya, as well as this lime-honey chicken. I definitely suggest the lime-honey chicken, it was pretty dang good.

I feel like all I've been doing is washing dishes. Cheers!

Bye Bye Brown Couch

Happy Sunday! I'm here to update you on a few things around the Ray household...We tried out a new recipe for breakfast. Egg/sausage or bacon/cheese cups.

Inspiration found from Pinterest - here. We added breakfast sausage to some and bacon to others.

Next.... we finally removed the white curtains. Remeber in this post where I mentioned that I didn't really like the green and white alternating? Well it's finally all green and I like it! Now the question is what am I going to do with the leftover white curtains?? Something crafty, I hope.
Next - the most amazing homemade meal that PK and I have made happened last night (with a little help from Chris, the brother-in-law). Crispy chicken with creamy italian pasta. Amazing. Inspiration found from Pinterest, here.
Yum.

And finally.... do you notice anything different?!?! The brown couch finally left our residence yesterday, with cash in our hands! Woo hoo!! Now we have all this extra space for extra activities. Hehe. (Name that movie?)

Next on the agenda for today. Cleaning the house for friends coming over tonight. AND going to attempt making my real dessert, ever.

Cheerio!

Wags & Bacon

Hey you all - how was your weekend?

We created a menu, put in on the side of our fridge - inspired by this on Pinterest.

Pinterest has taken over our lives. We're finding more ways to organize and repurpose things. Our pantry door got pimped out.

A few pumpkins have started to show up around the house. Fall is coming!

Even my husband got inspired and organized the entire garage.

 Looks awesome.

On Saturday, we went to Wags and Waves. Basically dog madness. Can you spot PK and Ranger in the photo above??

Fortunately for our yard and air conditioner, it was only 75 degrees and cloudy all day. However, unfortunate for us... at a water park with a wet dog.

Going for a ride around the lazy river!

Wet dog.

Check out all the loot we got from the event!

Later on Saturday we went to a movie with our community group. It's a movie that our church, Watermark, produced. It's story is based on the life of Joseph from the Bible. Take a look at the website, you can even watch the preview = www.seasonsofgray.com. Our friend Hector was a production assistant during the filming and it was so cool to know someone from the inside! Check out Hector and Emily's blog here!

Next on the agenda for the weekend...was twice baked potatoes! Check out my inspiration found from Pinterest.

They were delish!! PK even approved. He loves bacon and it was the first time we'd EVER made bacon in our house, so he was pumped.

Now we're watching the Emmy's! Have a great week!

Martha's Chicken Enchiladas

One of my favorite things about Pinterest is the recipes! It's so much more enticing when you can see a picture of the final product, so I made some chicken enchiladas that I found on Pinterest. It's actually a Martha Stewart recipe called, "Lighter Chicken Enchiladas".

I didn't follow the directions on the chicken. I did it in the crock pot with some taco seasoning.
We also decided to add some onion and green bell pepper, so we could say that we at least had SOME veggies today.
Getting them all organized...
The final product! It was my first time to make enchiladas at home! The only thing that bugged me was the sauce was a little too salty to me. So next time I make them, I'll probably look for another recipe for sauce.

So who else is obsessed with Pinterest? I've already showed PK the boards called, "I want this for Christmas..." and "PK could make this". It's addicting... I haven't checked it in a few hours -- what have I missed???? Off to feed the obsession!

Block Party

We had our first neighborhood block party on Saturday! We were pretty nervous and ALMOST didn't go, but I'm so glad we did. We met lots of neighbors and heard about people's kids and dogs. And I've already received an e-vite to bunco later this month!

They provided pizza and beer. And we were supposed to bring an appetizer or dessert. Since I didn't feel like going to the grocery store, I looked at what we had in the pantry/fridge and decided to make the Pioneer Woman's "Monkey Bread".
It looked pretty good while it was still in the bundt pan. However, when trying to get it out of the pan, it didn't come out all nice and pretty like it was supposed to, but that's alright.
They even had a band!
People just chilling in the street, chatting away.

Although we didn't meet our immediate neighbors, we did meet a few people that live on our street, as well as our driveway neighbors. We are the youngest people in the neighborhood, by at least 10 years, but whatcha gonna do?

Cheers to getting to know the neighbors!

Wag More, Bark Less

Entering New Mexico!
Long hours on the road, luckily the weather was good.

Doggies fighting to get into the front seat.

PK and Ranger on a 4-wheeler.
Funny street name, hehe.
We saw thousands of these on the way there.
 Back from a hike!

Sleepy dog on the way home.

We had such a great time relaxing in the mountains and spending time with family. I'm hoping this is the location of our new commnity group gathering! Cheers!
