Dinosaurs and Diet Coke

Well Connor is out of surgery – all went well. And it looks like he won’t have to stay in the ICU, which hopefully means that they won’t have to stay in the hospital for four nights. Praying for quick and easy recovery! Thankful for the doctors and nurses taking medical care of him and my parents who are taking emotional care of him.
 
Not sure if I’ve ever mentioned on here that Connor is autistic, although very high functioning. For my college essay for TCU, one of the prompts was “if you could spend 24 hours as someone else, who would it be?” and I picked Connor. How fascinating it would be to be inside his head! I’m sure he thinks that about us too…

He’s a pretty funny kid, check out this clip from my mom’s email about his surgery today…
 
“Connor is much more anxious about the time in the hospital than he is about the surgery – there is just too much attention on him.  He especially is concerned about friendly nurses.  He has told me that he doesn’t want to talk to anyone in the hospital.  Therefore, he has pre-recorded several voice memos on his iPhone to use while we are there.  They include, “My head hurts, please don’t talk to me” – “I need a Diet Coke with ice” – and “Mom, can you hand me my dinosaur book?” Always planning ahead, that kid.”

He can’t get enough of dinosaurs and diet coke these days. He recently published a note on facebook about his “prediction of the future”, which involved the dinosaurs returning to earth and speaking English. How cool to have an imagination like that!
 
The sweetest thing that he often says to me is, “Jackie, you’re a good sister.” I’m one lucky chick to have such a good brother!
