Somewhere in the middle

Partial Lyrics from Casting Crowns “Somewhere in the Middle”:

“Somewhere between who I am and who I used to be
Somewhere between who I was and who You're making me
Somewhere in the middle, You'll find me

But will we trade our dreams for His or are we caught in the middle

Somewhere between my heart and my hands
Somewhere between my faith and my plans
Somewhere between the safety of the boat and the crashing waves

Somewhere between a whisper and a roar
Somewhere between the altar and the door
Somewhere between contented peace and always wanting more
Somewhere in the middle, You'll find me

Lord, I feel You in this place and I know You're by my side
Loving me even on these nights when I'm caught in the middle”

Remember how I mentioned that I’m thankful for the Casting Crowns CD in my car? Well – this is one of the songs that I’ve been listening to on repeat! I think that PK and I have been feeling “somewhere in the middle” lately. Just recently we had one of those conversations about who we are and who we want to be. Part of it for us is realizing that we can’t become who we want to be without our Savior. I love the line of the song, “somewhere between who I was and who You’re making me”.

Some of the things seem so simple, like eating healthier, reading the Bible/having quiet time/praying more often, working out more frequently and watching less TV. But if it’s so simple, why is it so hard to do sometimes?! At the end of the day, I want to lay in bed knowing that I tried my very hardest to make it a great day. A great day means to me, talking with friends and family, loving on my spouse, getting something accomplished/crossing off something on my to-do list, feeling a connection with my Savior, being proud of my actions and words, eating what makes my body feel good, earning my salary for that day and playing with Ranger.

In the book, “The Greatest Salesman in the World”, Scroll #2 describes loving yourself as zealously inspecting all things which enter your body, your mind, your soul and your heart. And I would think that very similarly loving others is zealously inspecting all things that come out of your body, mind, soul and heart.

Food for thought today…
